Bird Watching Hikes
Birdwatching in Bahía Ballena and Uvita offers a rich variety of species that can also be spotted along the hotel’s trails and nearby areas. Guests may encounter colorful toucans, parrots, tanagers, and hummingbirds, as well as seabirds and migratory species depending on the season. The experience highlights the incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica’s South Pacific, making it accessible right from the property and its surroundings.
Lowland Bird Watching Hike
This hike begins early when the birds are just becoming active. First is a visit to a tower, located on a hill at treetop level. This is an ideal location for spotting tanagers, honeycreepers, toucans, saltators, vireos and many more. From there you will hike through a secondary forest with your sharp-eyed guide until you arrive at La Casona, the old Hacienda Baru home, where you will enjoy a delicious breakfast of typical Costa Rican food.
After breakfast you will continue on to the river, your best chance to observe pelagic species. Petrels, jaegers, gulls, and others are likely to be found there. Later you will visit the rookery, secondary forest and the beach.
